The city of Dacula, Georgia, located in Gwinnett County, was first incorporated in 1905. The city was home to a booming cotton industry and was home to the Georgia, Carolina and Northern Railway system for several decades. The name “Dacula,” (pronounced ‘da-CUE-la’) was created by the town’s first postmaster John W. Freeman; he simply combined letters from Atlanta and Decatur to come up with the name.
