History of the Area
In the early to mid 1800s the area of Vinings was known as the “Crossroads,” then later it became known as the “Paces.” Hardy Pace owned a ferry (Paces Ferry), which shuttled people along the Chattahoochee River to the areas of Atlanta, Buckhead and Vinings. Later in the 1840’s, when the Western and Atlantic Railroad started being built in the area by William H. Vining, the town name of ‘Vinings’ was adopted.
