From an outside view, the city of Atlanta offers plenty of excellent tourist stops like the World of Coca Cola, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Georgia Aquarium, to name a few. However, residents of the ATL know their is much more than this to enjoy, especially if you live within the perimeter (inside the city expressway loop).
The Atlanta BeltLine
The Atlanta BeltLine is part of a large transportation and economic development effort the city has taken on as one of their urban redevelopment programs. This project uses a historic 22 mile railroad corridor circling downtown Atlanta to connect various neighborhoods together, and to create a network of public parks, multi-use trails and transit along it.
Other Atlanta neighborhoods undergoing the same revitalization, like the “Old Fourth Ward” – home to Martin Luther King Jr. as a child, connect to the Atlanta BeltLine and now offer unique condos, apartments and homes for people to live right on the BeltLine! If you’ve ever sat through Atlanta traffic, you’ll know why having an alternate route is important.
The BeltLine allows more people to travel around Atlanta via walking, biking, skating, etc. It is a wonderful place for the family to enjoy some outdoor time, for couples to try delicious food at the restaurants situated on the line, and even for a great tour to learn about the history of different areas off the Atlanta BeltLine or about the changing art installations along the way.
The Atlanta BeltLine may not be why you are choosing to move to Atlanta, but it should most certainly be on your list of places to check out (like the Atlanta Food Truck Park)!
