When the now Powder Springs first became a town on December 29th, 1838, it was known as Springville. For some reason, the residents were not fond of that name and instead called it “The Springs”, until the town formally repealed the name in 1850, leaving the village unincorporated. It was not until December 19th, 1850 when it was renamed Powder Springs.
