Established in 1826, and made popular by the discovery of gold, the Villa Rica of today has excellent housing, fantastic entertainment, and top-notch education. If you are looking for a place to raise a family, that is both exciting and historical, Villa Rica is the place for you!

Historical Sites

With Villa Rica’s rich history, it is no wonder there are several historic sites in the city.

  • Wicks Tavern- Established circa 1830, this is the oldest commercial structure in Carroll County and served as the local watering hole for miners in the early 19th century. When the Georgia Pacific Railway was being constructed in 1882, the tavern was considered too large to be moved, and was later turned into a home. Now, Wicks Tavern serves as a living history museum and the home of Forrest Escort SCV and the Friends of Wicks Tavern.
  • The Stockmar Gold Mine-For a true sense of what the city was founded on, many visitors enjoy touring the Stockmar Gold Mine. Opened in 2008, and now serving as a division of Villa Rica Parks and Recreation, this gold mine is a historical landmark for the city.
