If you are planning a move during the holiday season, it does not have to put a damper on your celebrations. Relocating is something we all dread yet those who plan carefully enjoy a quick and easy move. The best way to gear up for the big moving day is by decluttering your living space.
Think about all the items you own and how few of them you will actually use on a regular basis after relocating. The best way to begin the decluttering process is to create three distinct piles in each room of the home. The first pile should consist of all the items you really want to keep. The second pile should consist of items that you will no longer use and nobody else could make use of either. The third pile should be designated as a “donation pile”. Put all your undesired items in this pile that will provide some utility for others. You can donate them to charity or give them to friends.
The decluttering process might seem daunting yet it does not have to consume an entire day. Do not be afraid to devote a portion of each night to decluttering a room or space in the home. You can space it out over a week or even a month. After assessing your possessions for utility and desirability, you’ll be left with considerably less stuff. As a result, you’ll spend less time performing the move.
After you declutter your home, spend some time thinking about how you would like to reorganize the remaining items that you intend to keep. Envision how they can be best utilized in your new living arrangement. This mental preparation will ameliorate the move-in process once you are done relocating all of your possessions to your new home.
